#8 Toos’ first Las Vegas Buffet

The two HAD found each other in the casino the night previously.  Kodi made sure that they each brought back a full cup of coffee to the room,  and she had purchased a packaged ham and cheese sandwich and a magic banana before heading upstairs.

Breakfast this morning, was iced coffee, fruit, and half the sandwich. It wasn’t bad, but the soggy lettuce was a little off putting, and they agreed not to get a sandwich with lettuce in it again.

They didn’t end up going to the pool as planned, because an overnight dust storm had left the air hazy and polluted. A few people were down there, but many fewer than expected on a hot day.

(Kodi didn’t see the storm the night before , but saw lots of photos afterwards.)

Toos said she hadn’t fancied the walk to the pool after yesterday’s excursion, anyway .  Her back was quite touchy, perhaps from leaning over the lady in the restaurant for as long as she did, and the tension while doing it…she needed to take extra pain medication, and they hung out in the room for longer than usual.

They had another meal out planned that afternoon, as Kodi had a 2/1 brunch buffet reward to use.  She also had a Konami free play at Excalibur.  Since she actually had two brunch buffets to use, one at Excalibur and one at Luxor, she’d had to decide which one to use today. She’d been able to get the Luxor one at the last moment  and she’d eaten there before and enjoyed it, so it would be today’s choice, and Toos’ first Las Vegas buffet.

They headed to the casino for a few hours, to make their fortune, agreeing to meet at the tram elevators at 1p.m.

Today, unlike the previous day, the yellow tape was down that had closed off the ‘express’ track, which bypasses a stop at Luxor, and goes directly to Excalibur .  They’d take advantage of that the next day most likely.

The tram station was extremely crowded, but they didn’t have to stand during the ride, because a young couple, who grabbed seats right away, offered them to the 2 Dames with Canes as soon as they entered the car behind them . Gratefully accepted…

Once they got to Luxor, Toos had a lot of new things to marvel over.

Kodi waited in the longish line at the MLife desk to get the rewards loaded onto the card, and got a smiling chatty clerk who had taken 15 minutes to serve the last guest.  Kodi smiled and answered her direct questions, but tried not to get into the same long discussion about the weather, her earrings , and where she lived.

Since Toos could use Kodi’s players card here, she put $20 into a quick hit machine. It ended up hitting HER quickly , and she got no hits..sigh.  After watching that poor performance , Kodi played what she was sure was a lucky dragon themed one….with no luck or entertainment value and she cashed out a .15 ticket, from her $20.  She passed it to the player next to her, who was hitting a few bonuses at least. She hoped that it didn’t jinx him after she left.

They wandered around Luxor for a while, and Kodi pointed out the balconies in the slanted tower, explaining about the unique Inclinator (“The Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas is shaped like a pyramid, so its elevators aren't standard up-and-down models. Instead, the elevators travel from floor to floor of the hotel on a diagonal. They're positioned at a 39-degree angle. While riding the elevator, hotel guests and visitors get to look out over the hotel's atrium”)  and the room style,  where for the cost of your stay, you could bang your forehead against the window while trying to look out of it, as many times as you chose to.

They then made their way down into the Belly of the  Pyramid, and got in line for the buffet.

They were seated at booth, close to the self serve beverage station, as they requested, and Kodi told Toos to get her drink first, and bring it back, and then to browse the offerings.  She got a large cola.  Kodi got herself some water and a coffee, and then Toos went hunting, while Kodi stayed with their belongings.

She came back with fruit and shrimp to start her meal.

Afterwards, she ate some chicken, a little bit of sausage and lots of veggies.

Kodi got her usual protein loaded plate, containing beef, chicken two ways, and sausage…with a couple of slices of cucumber, so she could say she ate her greens, LOL.  Then they shared a dessert plate, and both were pleasantly full afterwards.

Now that she knew the distance between the two, from her confused excursion earlier in the week, Kodi asked if Toos wanted to walk back to Mandalay Bay through the Mall, and then they slowly strolled, window shopped, and people watched.

Kodi spent the  rest of the evening playing and winning enough at Money Moolah, to keep pushing buttons at minimum, for nearly 3 hours on her last $60 for the day,  and then later rinsing a few garments out in the hotel room sink, to reuse during the remainder of the trip.

Tomorrow would be the last full day and night, enjoying Mandalay Bay’s hospitality, so they hoped to get to the pool one last time, and were using the second 2/1 buffet coupon from MyVegas at Excalibur.  Kodi bought a couple more yogurt parfaits,  and another banana to share on her way to the elevators .  She reminded Toos to order a coffee at her machine before they went upstairs, so they could round out the breakfast with iced coffees again, in the morning.
