Did either Kodi or Tom survive?

The morning of the 14th, Kodi checked all of the ‘goodies’ she needed to remember that day.  She blanked a lot when she was tired or distracted, and they had things to keep straight today.

They we’re headed down to New York to use a My Vegas reward at Nine Fine Irishmen and she also needed to get $25 free play there that she’d redeemed on Konami games.  They’d take the Deuce both ways, because of her walking difficulties.  First order of the day was to find some breakfast.

The walked towards the Pantry and saw a number of people waiting. Hmm, not too bad, so perhaps they’d go there.  They got in line.  The young lady at the entrance asked the couple ahead of them if they were on the online waiting list. They weren’t, and turned to leave. Tom and Kodi beat them to it!  They recalled a little coffee place on the way to the pool, and wondered if it was still open so began to walk in that direction.  They soon came upon the Roasted Bean and Kodi got in line, while Tom got one of the last two available tables.

He wanted a toasted bagel with cream cheese and a tea, and she’d have the same ( adding a packet of jam) with a coffee. They served Starbucks coffee.  The only hot tea was Earl Grey, which Tom despises, so she ordered him a hot chocolate.  Many of the customers were getting their orders to go, but the tables were now all filled.

Luckily, Kodi had half a bottle of water with her, because the black coffee was too hot to drink, and she began to choke a bit on her bagel ( another intermittent problem with Sjogrens).  She recovered, and Tom gave her a sip of his hot chocolate, that was full of whipped cream, so wasn’t as hot…She then waited to eat any more until her coffee cooled down.

They strolled into a couple of shops on the way back, and admired the hundred and forty nine varieties of Gelato offered at the corner stand.

They went their separate ways again, and agreed to meet at noon to head out for the bus. Kodi made sure to get another bottle of water at the first machine she played.

They made their way out the walkway to the street after meeting up again. Tom had stayed even and Kodi had been blown out of the water again, so was very  ready to leave the Mirage.  She was sure that the pretty dolphin greenery would soon be gone, so took a moment to enjoy it…while Tom waited.

They walked up to the bus stop and it wasn’t long before they got onto a standing room only Deuce.  The bus passes were christened, and they paid a $1 each for a foot of swaying floor space! 😂

At least the driver called out the stops because it was rather disorienting facing the side of the bus.  Once off, they had to walk a fair distance weaving around outdoor patios down to the corner and around it to go up the escalator to the bridge between the Excalibur and New York New York.  By the time they got in, along the upper level to the escalator going down to the casino (which wasn’t working ) Kodi was totally beat.  She had to lean on Tom and was wondering why she’d even come.  She couldn’t believe she’d be this totally useless on the trip. 😢 If her body was capable of producing tears, they would have been running down her face.

Tom waited patiently until she recovered her composure and got into the elevator.  There were people with strollers waiting to get on, so he went down the stairs.

Kodi looked for the Rewards Desk, and saw that like at the Mirage, it was at one end of the Cashiers Cage…with no separate footprint in the casino any longer.  There was a very long line and she sat at a nearby machine stool, while Tom held a place for her.  Once there were  2 people  ahead of him, they changed places.

The gal looked at her account and said that everything was already on her card.  Tom went off looking for video keno, agreeing to meet her at 2 p.m. in front of NFI..  Kodi wandered around trying to find something that was appealing and finally just sat down,  as she was parched.  She never saw or heard a cocktail waitress in the 30 minutes she was there..moving just a machine or two in any direction, trying to get the damn free play to load.  When she pressed the button for the account Etc.. It confirmed that she had free play there, but when she put some of her cash in and then tried to add the free play, it said there was no free play available.  This happened over and over.

She trudged up to the line again, with no line holder, and stood there for 20 minutes.  The lady who had assisted her was gone, and a young man,  after she explained what had happened, said he’d take care of it…”There, that should work.”  Of course it didn’t.  She repeated the entire process and was third time lucky.  By the time she met Tom, she was a wreck and rather snappy…and still hadn’t found something to drink.

They went in and were seated at a table for two in a walkway, but got one next to a wall when Kodi asked.

She fancied a chicken Caesar salad, but was told it wasn’t eligible for the 2/1 entree deal that they had.  She’d used it for a steak salad a few years ago, so it was just up to the server obviously . (The salad dish with added chicken or steak was the same price as many of the entrees. )

Tom ordered the Chicken Pot Pie, and Kodi got the Fish and Chips .  They both just had water…lots of it!  It was all very tasty.

They decided to split a favourite dessert of theirs which they had only ever found there.   Oh dear, the Sticky Toffee Cheesecake was missing from the menu.  The gal serving them said she’d been there for 6 months and had never heard of it. “Apple crumble? Bread pudding?”   “No thanks, just the bill please.”

Neither of them wanted to play in NY NY any longer, and they began the trek home.  They crossed the bridge to the MGM side, and went down and along to the bus stop in front of the shops.

There was a lot of walking today, but it still beat having to hike the whole distance. Kodi remembered back when they walked miles up and down the strip daily.  She knew that many people their age still did, and she knew that Tom was doing these ridiculous things for her, and she felt guilty about it.

They got seats on the return bus, and talked to a younger couple facing them ,who were in town for the first time in 15 years and who were blown away by all the changes. They were headed all the way Downtown to look around.

Tom and Kodi got off at Harrahs and walked down to Walgreens near the Venetian, so Tom could get a large orange juice and finally replace his empty toothpaste.

When they staggered into the Mirage finally, they headed up to the room…but not before they stopped at Snacks and got a large piece of carrot cake to share.

Time to turn around and head back up the strip..they’d see this corner again soon enough
